Serbian Visa FAQ

QUICK ANSWERS

If you’re still confused about the VISA process, take a look at our frequently asked questions below - or get in touch with your own question.

I'M A EU CITIZEN, DO I NEED A VISA TO ENTER SERBIA?

If you are a citizen from the EU, you don’t need a VISA to enter Serbia. You can enter the country and stay without a VISA for a period of 3 months. After this time, you will need to apply for a residence permit.

I'M NOT EU CITIZEN, DO I NEED A VISA TO LIVE IN SERBIA?

Yes, you do. Regardless if you are EU citizen or from other continent, you need a VISA if you want to live in Serbia. We explain in our VISA section what do you need to do and how the process works.

WHAT KIND OF VISA PERMITS EXIST IN SERBIA?

You have short stay VISA, temporary stay VISA and permanent VISA. You can read more about each procedure in our VISA section. You will most likely be applying for a temporary stay VISA when first moving to Serbia.

IF I HAVE A RESIDENCE PERMIT, CAN I WORK?

Yes, you can. But you need to request a work permit. First, you apply for the temporary stay VISA and when this is granted you can apply for the work permit.

CAN MY EMBASSY REQUEST THE VISA ON MY BEHALF?

No, they can’t. You need to apply for the VISA permit yourself. Your embassy will provide you some guidance but they cannot process any paperwork for you.

Your embassy can, however, register your data in their own books as an expatriate living in Serbia - something definitely worth considering. The embassy will then have more information if you need help in an emergency.

WHERE DO I GO TO REQUEST MY VISA?

You will have to go the Immigration Office in Savska 5, but make sure to read our guidelines beforehand so you are clear how the process works. We recommend you go with a Serbian speaker because majority of the officers will only speak Serbian - making the process a little bit frustrating.

WHAT IS A WHITE CARD?

The white card or bela karta in Serbian, is the 1st document you will need when you enter Serbia. It's a paper which registers your residence in Serbia and entrance to the country - it's mandatory for every foreign citizen who comes to Serbia. You need to go to the nearest police station within 24h of arrival.

You can find detailed information on all these topics in our VISA procedures section.
